Following on the heels of Community Trust Bank’s recent entry into the Houston market, Community Trust Bank has announced that James S. D’Agostino, Jr. has been appointed to the bank’s Board of Directors. Mr. D’Agostino has long been a prominent bank executive, businessman and resident of Houston.

Mr. D’Agostino founded Encore Bancshares in 2000 and served as Chairman of the Board of Encore Bank from 1999 through 2012, when the company was purchased by Cadence Bancorp, Inc. Currently, he is the Managing Director of Encore Interests, LLC, which is involved with banking, energy and investments. Mr. D’Agostino is Chairman of the Board of Houston Trust Company, a privately owned independent trust company with $3.7 billion under management. Additionally, he has served as a director of Basic Energy Services (NYSE: BAS) since 2004 and currently serves on its compensation and audit committees.

From 1986 until 1999, D’Agostino worked for American General Corporation in Houston, where he held the offices of Vice Chairman and Group Executive – Consumer Finance of American General Financial Group, and President, Member of Office of Chairman and Director. Prior to that, he was the Chairman, President and CEO of American General Life and Accident Insurance Company in Nashville, Tennessee. From 1976 until 1986, D’Agostino worked for Citigroup, where he established the first private banking office for Citibank outside of New York. He also worked for Chase Manhattan Bank from 1974 until 1976 and Fidelity Union Trust Company from 1968 until 1974.
Mr. D’Agostino holds a Bachelors of Science in economics from Villanova University and a J.D. from Seton Hall University School of Law. Additionally, he has completed the Advance Management Program at Harvard Business School.
