Community Trust Bank to Host Book Signing for Dr. James White

RUSTON, LA – August 28, 2012

Community Trust Bank will host a public book signing on Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., featuring Dr. James White as he signs copies of his book titled Peace Easy – A Personal Story of Faith and Dealing with Attention Deficit Disorder. The event will take place at Community Trust Bank’s Ruston Financial Center, 1511 North Trenton Street in Ruston, LA.

Dr. James White, a Ruston native, graduated from Ruston High School and received a Bachelor of Biological Sciences degree from Louisiana Tech University. Continuing his education, Dr. White earned a Master of Science degree and then a PhD from Louisiana State University. He then became a Professor of Biological Sciences and the Associate Dean of the College of Life Sciences at Louisiana Tech, retiring in 1995. All of these are remarkable accomplishments, considering the story told in the book.

Dr. White’s book was written as a memorial to his grandson, Holden Yates, who was in a fatal auto accident in 2004 at the age of sixteen. During the course of his short life, Holden was diagnosed with dyslexia and attention deficit disorder (ADD). Dr. White believes that he, too, suffered from ADD, but in the 1940s and 50s when he was growing up, this diagnosis had not yet been discovered. Peace Easy tells the true story of Dr. White’s struggle with learning and education, and details the events in his life that kept him from dropping out of school and influenced him to instead pursue a college education.

In the book’s preface, Dr. White writes, “I hope this little book will encourage students to remain in school and do their best to graduate. Additionally, I hope it will encourage parents, grandparents, guardians, teachers, coaches, administrators, and others to extend a helping hand to the ‘slow learner’ who is easily discouraged.”

Linda Graham, Community Relations Officer for Community Trust Bank and a friend of Dr. White’s, believes Peace Easy can help those who are struggling with learning issues.

“Peace Easy is intimately written and filled with hope. It is wise and practical with hard-lived guidance for how you can make a difference to those in need,” Graham said. “Dr. White showcases a powerful, true story about ADD that can transform your life.”

Dr. White lives in Ruston with his wife, Donna. They have been married for 55 years and have two children and three grandchildren.
