Beware of any phone calls you may get from “IRS Agents” claiming that you owe taxes. The phone number may even be spoofed to read “IRS” or “Internal Revenue Service” in the caller ID. The scam artist may demand 10% of your tax balance paid by debit or credit card to avoid penalty or other consequences.
Remember the real IRS will typically contact you by mail instead of telephone and probably wouldn’t settle for 10%!
If you are contacted by telephone – it would be a good idea to end the call and contact the actual IRS for information: http://www.irs.gov/Businesses/Small-Businesses-&-Self-Employed/IRS-Hotlines-and-Toll-Free-Numbers
